Now recently I just bought and built a 12U network rack. (some that i ai upscaled to improve quality) Sitting at 400+ movies 50+ shows, that I all added manually over time. But started out with Plex because the idea of my own Netflix sounded cool. That's how your home lab expands from Plex machine to god knows what. I have a 2600 and ssd laying around from an old build, only other thing is that I want it to be in its form factor for size since I don't need 5xHDD for storage. You say you have no interest in that stuff now, but once you're in this Sub you'll start learning and seeing more things you'll want to try. Building a backup pc as well as a basic home server for tasks like media storage, plex server, minecraft/terraria server, pihole etc all running on windows. Cause then you'll get urges to login in via the web, look around plex or your OS it's running on just at random points of the day to play with configs/settings. I feel like you'll learn more leaving it up 24/7 anyways. (Not really a huge difference in wear but wear nonetheless.) Generally spinning up disk and stopping constantly will wear the disk more than leaving it to it's own devices. To run Plex or Jellyfin doesn't require anything crazy spec wise anyways. Well unless you're trying to be extra stringent on the electricity bill.
